Business Phone FAQ – The Basics

BrantTel's Business Phone is a Cloud-based phone system all your own. Your specific instance is hosted in Amazon Web Services and delivered over the public internet to your location(s). We provide Cloud-based trunking with our preferred carrier so your calls go out to the PSTN right through AWS.
There are several unique value propositions for Business Phone 1. This is your private phone system in the Cloud, it is not multi-tennanted (Shared) like other big providers (wink, wink). 2. You have all the features of an on-premise phone system without the server, gateway or line costs to worry about.
For each license type (Standard and UC), each user has 1200 North American minutes per month to use for talk time (both inbound calls and outbound calls). These minutes are pooled among your users. If one user does not use the phone very often but others are always on conference calls, these minutes generally balance themselves out. It's rare to go over 1200 minutes per month unless you are a serial conference caller :). Long Distance outside of North America is based on the rates of the carrier, these can be downloaded here for your reference.
Business Phone is flexible, you can still use your favorite analog devices if you wish. This sometimes includes door phones, security pads, paging systems and horns etc. We install a physical gateway at your location and this connects your analog devices to the Cloud. Business Phone is coupled with local support from BrantTel. Local support for any location in the GTA is included at no extra charge. Other providers offer you a 800 number and online instructions to fix and operate your phone system, BrantTel offers live-person support and truckroll to your location if required.
Currently Business Phone is offered in a 3 year contract term, 5 year terms are also available.

Business Phone – Customer Info

All Business Phone customers receive the same expert installation as do our on-premise customers. A dedicated project manager will meet with you and discuss your call flows, your auto attendant and voice talent, your preferred extension ranges or Direct Inward Dial numbers you wish to port over etc. This is a customized engagement with our Pro Services team. As the customer you will need to provide details on how your phone system works today, what you want to optimize and any changes you would like to make. We'll do the technical part, all you have to do is have your information when we begin the installation.
To get the most from Business Phone, BrantTel recommends that you have fast internet, with diverse carriers to maintain 100 Kbps (kilobits per second) bi-directional to every phone on the service. We find that this can be challenging for some customers to achieve. BrantTel will guide you if you need assistance. Ask us about how we join 2 internet connections together to give you increased bandwidth and uptime.
In many cases with Business Phone, you can bring your own phones if they meet a technical requirement. Reach out to us or ask a question on this page about what models are supported. If you are migrating away from another cloud solution, there is a good chance your phones are compatible. The trick with this is, you may be charged for a 3rd party phone license, this is a one time charge that we'll inform you about if it applies.
Yes, you may mix and match any phones with any license type. This can really help if you have mobile staff that need soft clients but you also have staff that work in the office full time.
No, in fact you don't need to buy any phones if you don't want to. The UC license includes a laptop softphone and a mobile client softphone. See the Soft Clients Business phone page for more detailed information. The second option is to bring your own phones, mentioned in the post above.
Yes, we hope you will. It's a simple web based administrator tool that allows you to move and change extensions, see your auto attendant trees and manage button programming on telephones. We'll give you detailed instructions and show you how to manage it. If you ever have a problem, support for Business Phone is included in your subscription.
The Business Phone cancellation policy is determined by your initial contract. If you have signed a 3 year contract then there is a penalty to cancel that contract early. Exactly how much depends on your user count, the services you consume and the date of which you wish to cancel in-contract. We don't think you'll need to worry about this so much, we're confident you'll love BrantTel Business Phone.

How Phone Numbers Work

Yes, BrantTel will port your existing number to the Business Phone platform. We arrange a porting date for your numbers, and we make sure your system is up and running when they go live. If you have many numbers (DID's), a porting fee may apply.
Yes, you can buy phone numbers and associate them with your business, you can also buy 800 numbers if you desire.
Yes, your phone number for your business stays with you. We just "rent it" to make sure that it's a part of your Business Phone solution.
Your outgoing caller ID has to conform to the CRTC policy 2018-484, caller ID has to conform to North American standards. ie. 10 digits. We'll set this up for you correctly when we install the system.
